Like our most valued relationships, a little amount of love and care can go a long way when it comes to caring for our precious jade jewelry.

Maintaining a jade’s radiance, lustre, beauty, and vitality requires regular upkeep.

Jade should not be exposed to chemicals

It is not recommended to clean jade with jewelry or household cleaners since they contain strong chemicals that might ruin the jade’s beauty. Make sure to remove your jewelry before swimming in a pool or hot tub, since chlorine can also damage the stone.

Light contact with most daily chemicals (such as soap, lotions, perfumes, and so on) will not permanently damage your jade, but it will lose the lustre of its surface over time. As a result, whenever possible, we advise minimizing exposure to those chemicals.

Exposure to high heat should also be avoided since it may alter the chemical structure of jade.

Make use of water and mild soap

Avoid using acids or alcohol to clean your jade jewelry! To clean it, it is recommended that you only use water or water mixed with mild soap.

Add lukewarm water to a dish large enough to hold your jade piece. Mix in two or three drops of mild, alcohol-free dish or hand soap until totally dissolved.

Soak your jade piece in the solution-filled dish for up to one minute. Gently scrub the object with a delicate brush or your fingers. Avoid pressing too forcefully by moving in gentle, circular motions.

You can use a toothbrush to clear out nooks and corners when cleaning a ring or other piece of jewelry with tight spaces. Dip the brush into the cleaning solution and clean around the setting gently.

Use a microfiber or lint-free cloth

After washing your jade, shake off excess water and gently towel dry. Wipe it down with a microfiber or soft, lint-free cloth. This will give it a glossy smooth appearance and also prevent scratches. When hand drying your piece, avoid using abrasive cloths or rags, and don’t press too hard.

Oil your jade

Polished jade can be lightly oiled once a week or so by using baby oil. (eg Johnson & Johnson baby oil) The oil cleanses the stone’s surface, making it more radiant. You can use a lint-free cloth to rub the stone with a little oil. Allow the oil to rest for 5–10 minutes before wiping it away with a clean, dry towel.

Separate your items from other gemstones

You risk scratching jade by storing it with other gemstones or jewelry. Put them in a separate compartment or on their own in a jewelry box.

Store your jade jewelry in a safe place and use a desiccant

Keep it out of places where it could drop or be a victim of an unfortunate accident. A regular occurrence is when a small child wanders over, curiously grabs, and accidently throws your precious jade.

Don’t strike it on hard surfaces

Be mindful of how you wear your jade jewelry to preserve its excellent condition and appearance. If it is a necklace, it may come into contact with an edge of anything, causing it to crack or break. Jade stones can be permanently damaged and devalued by hitting it into other hard items.

Maintenance is key. Following these few steps will ensure that your precious Gen. K jewelry will continue to look great for years to come!
